Former Google DeepMind researchers have released Udio, an artificial intelligence-powered app enabling anyone to produce professional-quality music within minutes. Already it has received praise from notable figures in music including will.i.am, Common, and Kevin Wall.

Udio cofounder and CEO David Ding believes its app can become an indispensable resource for artists looking to boost their creative output. “We have witnessed how talented musicians, producers, and creators use iterative processes like testing out lyrics or creating new beats or harmonies,” according to Ding in a recent interview with VentureBeat.

Udio allows users to easily create music by providing genre, genre type, lyrics or subject matter information, as well as artists that inspire them. Udio then generates a fully mastered, high-quality audio track in less than 40 seconds; users can edit and modify their composition using Udio’s “vary” feature which enables them to adjust both sound quality and length of their track creations.

Udio has implemented safeguards, such as copyright filters, to ensure that music created on their platform is unique and original. Ding emphasized this issue to VentureBeat by noting the company’s dedication: “Our automated copyright filters help ensure our outputs do not violate copyrighted material – our team continues to develop these safeguards as part of their ongoing dedication to ensure all works created through Udio are original works created on our platform.”
